Kensington, London

1991

With a large roof terrace to the east and another to the west, the layout of this one-bedroom mansion block apartment needed radical rethinking to maximise the potential for space, light and views. By moving the front door, it was possible to adapt the European enfilade planning approach and link all the main rooms along a central axis to connect the roof terraces at either end, exploiting the long views and natural light. Floor-to-ceiling sliding and folding doors allow flexibility of space and use. The apartment can either be open plan, or if some or all of the doors are closed it can be reconfigured to create a number of different internal layouts to suit different requirements throughout the day.
