This former traditional stone barn sits alongside a narrow rural lane. Over the years, the growing size of farm machinery had resulted in part of the rear wall of the building being demolished to increase the width of the road, giving the interior of the building an odd and uncomfortable shape. The conversion rationalises the interior proportions through the insertion of a new white wall that runs the length of the lane boundary. The wall creates a conventional rectangular living space, positions the staircase up to the galleried living area and terminates at a cantilevered fireplace. Light tubes contained within the wall direct natural light to the kitchen and bathroom below. New galvanised metal rooflights flood the space with natural light.
