This apartment in a post-war apartment block in Kensington was designed to exploit the rare configuration: a 27 metre-long lateral space that overlooks a garden square. The rearranged apartment takes maximum advantage of the long dimension, with a series of full-height sliding doors that can be opened up to present a long, unbroken vista running the length of the space. The mansard slope to the front of the apartment is concealed behind a run of vertical walls and concealed cupboards. The new living spaces are defined by a series of boxes constructed from dark stained wood, containing kitchen equipment, coat cupboards and study, which are offset strongly by the white perimeter walls. The loose arrangement of these boxes creates different routes within the apartment, adding to the increased perception of the space.
